Singapore Model Parliament

The Singapore Model Parliament (SMP) is a premier platform for Singaporean youths from the Institutes of Higher Learning to learn about our country’s parliamentary processes and national issues through realistic stimulation of debates in parliament, mentorship by reputable coaches, and interactions with our nation’s leaders.

In 2018, APA had collaborated with REACH Singapore in organizing the annual Singapore Model Parliament which was held on the 3rd February 2018 and concluded on the 4th February 2018.

Throughout the two day sessions, close to 100 participants from the Universities, Private Education Institutes, Polytechnics and Junior Colleges had the chance to play the roles of MPs from ruling party and opposition, as well as NCMPs and NMPs, to draft, debate and vote on mock bills.

SINGAPORE MODEL PARLIAMENT 2019

Singapore Model Parliament 2019 started off with a bang at our Workshop on the 7th of September.

Over 100 youths came down for intensive day-long preparation for the Model Parliament event at the Old Hill Police Station. They are divided up in a similar fashion as the current parliamentary composition inside the house, with an introduction of our parliamentary system and crash course on public policy and critical thinking in order to set their framework of discussions later.

Two topics are presented to the participants, based on current national issues that Singapore face today. They are tasked to think of legislative solutions that will help to address and solve the issues presented to them, which they will debate it out parliamentary-style on the 28 - 29 September at the Parliament House.

Which side will prevail and shape Singapore's future? Stay tuned!
